When Taylor Swift accepted her Hal David Starlight Award at the Songwriters Hall of Fame gala on Thursday (June 17) in New York, presenter John Mayer told everyone there that her success was no accident.
“You could put her in a time machine in any era and she would have a hit record. Don’t confuse everybody loving one thing as hype. Sometimes that’s everyone agreeing that it’s fabulous.”
Truer words have never been spoken. And I have to add that just because so many people agree that Swift’s music is fabulous is no reason for others to think it isn’t. That admiration from other songwriters is, in fact, why she won this award for promising young talent in the first place.
