Joaquin Phoenix’s appearance on “Late Show with David Letterman” Wednesday, in which he mostly hid behind a shaggy beard and didn’t say much of anything.

And you thought Dave trying to get answers out of the “Miracle on the Hudson” crew was tough the night before.Nonetheless, this was funny in spite of itself.

Was it just part of the mockumentary is filming about his supposed music career or an off night made worse by the incessant poking of Dave? Judge for yourself. File it with past appearances by Crispin Glover or Andy Kaufman. Good TV either way.
