According to the Columbus Dispatch, fair officials released a statement saying that the singer is suffering from strained vocal cords and “has been ordered by her physician to rest her voice and not travel for a week.” Gomez has rescheduled the show and will honor tickets on November  6 at the Celeste Center at the Ohio Expo Center.

MTV News reached out to Gomez’s rep to get an update on the status of her upcoming shows, which includes one Wednesday night (July 28) in Delaware, as well as shows on July 31 (in New York) and August 1 (in Connecticut), but had not received word at press time.
Gomez has been tweeting about her condition. She wrote, “This sucks … My throat is sick. I’m not, my throat is. Ugh.” She then later added, “Used my laptop to type at dinner since I can’t talk … That was interesting.”
She used a similar method on “Lopez Tonight” earlier this week when she spoke using a Dynavox voice-enhancing machine. However, she was able to maintain good spirits about it, joking, “I’m sorry. I’m so upset, but at least it’s funny, right?”
In the same interview with George Lopez, Gomez talked about her friendship with fellow teen star Justin Bieber. “I love him. He’s like my little brother. I like to say his name onstage because if I’m performing badly, I say his name and the audience will cheer,” she joked, adding that at one show he asked her to take off her heels to make up for the height difference, but she wouldn’t comply. “[I told him] ‘No, I’m not going to take off my heels. You’re short, embrace it.’ He’s getting taller, though.” It seems that the ailment affecting Selena Gomez’s voice on Monday night when she stopped by “Lopez Tonight” is still plaguing the “Wizards of Waverly Place” star. September release will feature a collaboration with one of California’s most famous gurls.

“Katy Perry gave me a song, and she did background vocals on it,” she told Hollywood Life. “The whole experience was really fun.”

Other details concerning the song with Perry are unknown, but Gomez has said that this next album will focus on her growing up musically. “The title so far of my album — I mean, I’m hoping it will stick — is A Year Without Rain,” Gomez told MTV News. “It’s basically one of my favorite songs on the record. It’s kind of got a more feel-good dance beat and feel. I love it. It’s different; [it] kind of shows my growth of my music.”

Gomez has other favorite tunes on the album. “There’s a song called ‘Intuition’ that’s one of my favorites. The message is basically every decision that you regret or second-guess, [just] do it [anyway]. I love that message so much.”

Not only does she have songs banked for the album, the visuals for it are also in the works. “Shot my album artwork for the next record today!” she tweeted a few weeks ago. “Ah, I can’t wait for yall to see/hear all the new stuff!”

Thursday (July 22) happens to be Selena Gomez’s 18th birthday, and while having her first feature film, “Ramona and Beezus,” hitting the big screen this weekend is quite a gift — and she got a giant cupcake backstage at “Late Night With Jimmy Fallon” Wednesday night — Gomez has devised a perfect way to spend this milestone birthday.

“[I'm going to have a] barbecue with my friends,” Gomez told MTV News at the junket for the film. “['Ramona and Beezus' co-star] Joey [King] is coming. We’re gonna go swimming.”

Gomez has long been a favorite actress of Dinsey productions, and recently, has made strides in extending her career as both an actress and on-stage-musical performer.

“Yeah, I’ll probably ask him if he wants to,” Selena told M Magazine. “He’s really busy, especially since he’s on tour, which I totally understand. I love that kid so much. He has definitely been an inspiration to me in many ways.”
The Disney songstress further said, “Justin has become one of my best friends. So doing a duet together would be a dream come true for both of us. I think it would be so much fun, hopefully it will happen!”
Selena Gomez is currently preparing a sophomore set titled “A Year without Rain”. She eyes to release it in United States on September 28 with a lead single “Round Round” already embraced by music fans since last month.

Honestly, I have always said that it’s a subjective glimpse of the whole. For me everything feels the same as before, but there are a few aspects of my life that are completely different. I would just like to not admit that it has taken over my entire life. For myself, in my head, it’s the same as it was in the old days; I also have the exact same friends.

You are 24 and, as it is, can’t be anywhere without bodyguards at the door. Doesn’t it stink to you that you can’t lead a normal life?
Sometimes. But then I remember how my normal life was: boring.

No, I don’t. My “apartment” consists of three suitcases, out of which I live. Inside of them is everything that I need.

The actress/singer is, not surprisingly, “super excited” about starting work on it. But if fans of the 16-year-old, who stars in “The Wizards of Waverly Place” on the Disney Channel, are expecting it to be all about Selena, they’d better think again.

“I’m going to be in a band — no Selena Gomez stuff,” she told MTV News last week. “I’m not going to be a solo artist. I think that I don’t want my name attached to it.”

The star said that the album will have a pop/rock feel to it, and she plans to play instruments on some of the album’s tracks.

“I basically want to make music that is fun and that parents and kids can jump around to and have a good time to,” she said. “I will be singing, and I’m learning drums and playing electric guitar.”

She even wants to take a backseat at times during live gigs. “I would like to try it and kind of switch it up,” she said. “When I do the tour and stuff, I would like to do maybe a section on the piano or on guitar or on drums.”

And although a musical career is relatively new to her, Selena is determined not to bite anyone else’s style. “You know the [Jonas] boys and people like Demi [Lovato] are my friends, so I definitely would not copy or do anything that they did. They’re really good, obviously, at what they’re doing, so I’m going to let them have that. But it’s also just kind of fun to learn things.”

Speaking of whom … at press time, rumors continued to circulate that Selena and Nick Jonas (who spoke at a press conference Wednesday about the Brothers’ new single) are an item. The pair recently fueled the speculation when they each shared a dating story, in two different interviews, that sounded familiar. At press time, neither star had commented on the rumors.
