Complete persona shifts aside, Hudgens also talked about the insane training regimen she and costars Abbie Cornish, Jena Malone and Emily Browning endured to get in shape for the film—”The first day I was dead lifting 135!”—her love for Halo and why she loves Comic-Con.

The 21-year-old actress’ three-night run as Mimi will begin in less than a month on August 6. The cast has yet to begin rehearsals, but Hudgens admits to doing a lot of preparation on her own.

“We still have not started rehearsals. We only have about 10, 11 days of rehearsal so I’m just learning all the songs, making sure I know them in and out, so when I go all they have to do is tell me where to stand and how to move.”

Hudgens also spoke about playing the part of Mimi. Mimi’s character has also been played by actresses like Daphne Rubin-Vega, who portrayed Mimi in the original production, Rosario Dawson, who starred in the 2005 film, and Spice Girl Mel B.

“Oh my god, I love the part of Mimi. She’s a phenomenal character, she’s such an amazing art, gets the best songs, and it’s just a lot of fun.”

It is hard for the former High School Musical star to get away without talking about her boyfriend Zac Efron, who stars in the new movie, Charlie St. Cloud, which opens on July 30.

“Oh my god yeah, it’s amazing. I’m so excited for the world to see it. Everyone’s gonna be blown away,” she raved.

Although the pair seems very much in love, Vanessa claims she is still too young to think about settling down.

“I’m 21. It’s way too early. I’m happy.”

The Disney star and Heroes actress spent the day on a Los Angeles beach on Saturday to announce the new Neutrogena Wave for Change initiative.

The brand has received $200,000 from selling items through GlobalGiving and the new promo means followers can choose which charities should receive the money.

Devotees are being directed to the Neutrogena Facebook.com page, where they can take a quiz to help make their decision.

Panettiere says, “Often people want to participate, but they don’t know how so the fact Neutrogena is opening the door and kids are getting to be a part of something and help the world is an amazing thing to be a part of.”

Hudgens adds, “It’s so cool that Neutrogena is letting the fans go to Neutrogena’s Facebook page to take a quiz to determine how the money raised for charity is being distributed. By taking a few minutes to join in, everyone can make a big difference in the world.”

“We got lucky because we started off together, so I think people like us because they fell in love with our characters … Right off the bat, we had a connection,” Hudgens tells the new issue of Glamour magazine.

“I think everybody could see it. When we had our audition, they paired us together. And he was adorable. I mean, he wasn’t the guy that he is today. Like, he had a gap in his teeth. He was a whole different person.”

Hudgens then addressed rumors she and Efron are planning to shack up.

“Nuh-uh. No,” she insisted.“I mean, maybe … maybe house-hunting for houses on our own. I mean … which, I’m not. And he’s not, at the moment. So no. No. I just bought my house two years ago, and I adore it.”

And ‘High School Musical’ came along, and I was like, ‘Oh my God, fun!’ When I am around kids and they come up to me, of course I am going to act a certain way, but at the end of the day, I’m doing this for myself. I’m going to be doing movies kids can’t watch.”
